Thoughtful Canadians did not just buy a lot of ornaments and lights and wreaths at Christmas time, they also left out food for Santa Claus. And of course, the food was often the same sort of food children preferred, a glass of milk and a plate of chocolate chip cookies. And in the morning, when we raced down the stairs to see the gifts left under the Christmas tree, the food was all gone!
