The Hong Kong Adventures of Arielle Gabriel

Beginning A Romance

May I come to your home and visit with you?

This charming and apparently innocent comment - to us - conveys a completely different meaning in China, when a man asks this question of a woman to whom he is attracted. He is staying that he wants to be her boyfriend or lover.

If the man arrives without a friend or relative in tow, and he knows that the woman will be alone in the home, you can be sure there are romantic intentions.

I understand that Chinese people, are so rarely alone that the question has much dramatic impact - especially if woman is living alone, also a very circumstance - .

Probably the woman is alone in the home at a certain time of day or evening, which again is rare!
