No, I don't hear voices coming out of walls, or telephone booths!
I
have only had this sort of experience a few times, and it was always in a Buddhist centre, and to do with the beauty of spiritual
chanting, which is a sort of musicality in itself.
When I first began going to our Japanese Buddhist centre in Montreal, I
went into the large room where all our friends were chanting, and asked, Where is the music coming from?
The
voices did not sound like voices, but they all merged together and became a smoothly conjoined symphony. Again it is
sometimes hard to describe mystical experiences, and I do want to be clear.
If I had could have recorded what
my ears heard, and then played it back for you, my readers, you would not have heard voices chanting, you would have heard
musical instruments, of some kind.
It was very beautiful.
These experiences came to me just
at the start of my practice. Always surrounded by other Buddhists. At this time period in my life, I also did
many prolonged juice fasts, and later stopped these austerities, due to the alteration of my metabolism.
